    What is Carom Billiards?

Carom billiards is a type of billiards game played with one red ball and two white balls, one of which is marked. The player must use the cue ball to contact the other two balls on the table to score points. Follow at link jun88 website

There are three basic types of carom billiards: one-cushion, three-cushion, and straight rail. The most commonly used tables for carom billiards are either 1.5 x 3 meters or 1.4 x 2.7 meters in size.

    Basic Carom Billiards Techniques

Carom billiards is unique because the table has no pockets, unlike other billiards games. This requires players to master certain fundamental techniques:

    • Cue Preparation: To ensure accurate and consistent shots, apply chalk to the cue tip before each shot. This reduces the slipperiness of the cue tip on the ball, increasing friction and allowing for more precise shots.
    • Stance: A proper stance is crucial for balance, force generation, alignment, and concentration. The optimal stance involves standing with one foot forward, the other foot back, both feet shoulder-width apart, and the right foot firmly on the ground for stability. A good stance not only improves accuracy but also reduces fatigue.
    • Eye Adjustment: Before taking a shot, blink to relax your eyes and help align your cue with the cue ball for better accuracy.

Becoming proficient in these techniques requires regular practice. This foundation is essential for mastering advanced techniques and potentially teaching others, beyond just enjoying the game recreationally.

    Detailed Carom Billiards Rules

The scoring rules for carom billiards include specific regulations for the four marked zones at the table’s corners. These zones are outlined by triangles with a short side of 35.5 cm and a long side of 71 cm.

    • When both target balls are within a marked zone (even partially), the player can only score one point. After scoring the second point, at least one target ball must leave the zone.
    • If a target ball re-enters the zone after leaving, it is considered back in the zone. Failure to comply with these rules results in a foul and the player loses their turn.

    How to Play Carom Billiards

    Choosing the Break Player

In carom billiards, the referee places three balls along the line connecting the second spots at the ends of the table. The cue balls are then placed at the opposite end, and the players push their balls towards the cushion to determine the breaker. The player whose ball returns closest to the cushion gets the break.

    Note:

    • If the balls collide, the process is repeated.
    • A player whose ball leaves the table loses the break.
    • The breaking player may pass the break to the opponent.
    • A coin toss can also determine the breaker.

    Positioning Balls for the Break

Carom billiards uses three balls of different colors. They must be placed in specific positions according to the game’s rules:

    • The red ball is placed on the head spot, 142 cm from the cushion.
    • The opponent’s ball is placed on the foot spot, 71 cm from the cushion.
    • The breaker’s ball is placed 18 cm to the right or left of the opponent’s ball.

Basic Principles for Playing Carom Billiards

To increase the chances of winning, players should follow these basic principles:

    • Use force sparingly: Precision is key, so calculate each shot carefully.
    • Prefer short paths: Shorter paths increase accuracy.
    • Use controlled force to gather balls: Gently push the white ball and the cue ball to position the red ball as desired.

    Important Notes

    • A ball that jumps onto the cushion but returns to the table is considered in play. A ball that remains on the cushion is considered a foul, and the player loses their turn.
    • External interference during play does not count as a foul. The balls are repositioned, and play continues.
    • Missing a shot is not penalized unless a foul occurs. Scoring resumes normally if the shot is successful.
